Strengthened by the Holy Spirit

Confirmation is the second Sacrament of Initiation. In this Sacrament we receive the power of the Holy Spirit to go out and bear witness to God's love by both word and example.

The Holy Spirit strengthens us through his seven gifts: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, fear of the Lord (reverence and awe in God's presence), and piety. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives gives rise to certain dispositions within us that are traditionally called the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity.

Any young person or adult who wants to live their Christian life better can request the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation preparation sessions are designed so that anyone requesting this Sacrament can understand the commitment they are making as well as the benefits they will receive.

At St Elizabeth’s, we hope that preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is the time in a young person’s life that their faith really comes alive and becomes their own. We believe that this is best done by integrating learning about the faith, socialising with their peers, and receiving intentional mentoring as part of their weekly life. For this reason, we don’t run a stand-alone Confirmation preparation programme.

We invite those who are ready to start preparing for Confirmation (anyone in Year 8+) to join the weekly youth group from September. Georgia and the youth ministry team will then work with them both as individuals and as a group to prepare them to make their Confirmation the following summer.
